ROSE Byrne’s Golden Globe hopes may have been dashed earlier this year, but the star has struck the jackpot after being hand-picked to join Nicolas Cage in sci-fi thriller Knowing. In a coup for the Sydney actress, Cage has shunned the bright lights of Hollywood for the second time to film in Australia. The Oscar winner also filmed fantasy thriller Ghost Rider in Melbourne in 2005.For Byrne, 28, the casting triumph caps off a productive year and follows the star’s turn as Iris in the romantic crime drama The Tender Hook, also shot in Melbourne, which co-stars Hugo Weaving.
“I am delighted to be filming in Australia again,” Byrne said. “I have a huge amount of respect for Nicolas Cage, so it’s a thrill.”
Byrne, who won praise for her role in the Channel 9 series Damages, will play the daughter of a woman who buried a time capsule bearing the dates of the assassinations of historic figures and an imminent apocalypse. Source

Thanks shhimundercoverdamnit from the forums for this tidbit from TV Guide:
Question: Love your column! Any word on when the second season of Damages will be coming to a TV near me? — Mark
Ausiello: It’s looking like Jan. ’09. The new season of Rescue Me will likely follow in March ’09. Source.
Remember folks, these are the people that said Damages wasn’t coming back at all before it was renewed, so take this tidbit with a grain of salt. ;)
