"Little Miss Sunshine," is the name an Australian magazine called Rose. Another nickname is "the little ray of sunshine" nowadays. But nothing was that easy, although most of the people know Rose as the Trojan captive, Briseis, Rose has long since captivated audiences worldwide
Starting her career at the age 15 with a little part in Dallas Doll, Rose continued to take parts in TV shows for five years, until 1999 when she got the part of Alex in Two Hands, starring with up and coming actor, Heath Ledger. Meanwhile, Rose also got on stage, in plays such as Three Sisters and La Dispute.
After Two Hands, Rose continued playing in TV and shooting two movies My Mother Frank and The Goddess of 1967. That year, she won the best actress award at Venice Film Festival, for her role in The Goddess. She was also nominated with for same role at Film Critics Circle of Australian Awards in 2002, unfortunately she didn't get the award.
Clearly we can take The Goddess of 1967 was Rose's career turn. Two years later, her first role in a big Hollywood production was Star Wars Episode II: Attack of the Clones in which she played Dormé. There are many fan sites for Dormé, Rose is the reason why the character is loved so much.
After the small part in Star Wars, Rose began shooting movies in Europe and US. She starred with Natascha McElhone in City of Ghosts in 2002. In 2003, she played the sister of the British actress Romola Garai, daughter of Bill Nighy in I Capture The Castle. Later that year, Rose shot three movies in her home country. The Night We Called It A Day, along with Melanie Griffith, The Rage In Placid Lake (earning a nomination as best actress, AFIs) and Take Away.
By 2004, Rose was already an award-receiving, inspiring actress in her home and Europe. And finally, she was chosen to play Briseis in Troy, where she stared with successful actors (Eric Bana, Peter O'Toole, Orlando Bloom, Brad Pitt). Even though the movie was not as huge of a success as it was hoped to be, Rose was one of the luckiest actors in the movie, as she gained a lot of attention for being Brad Pitt's love interest.
Later that year, Rose shot Wicker Park with Diane Krueger, who played Helen in Troy. Rose played Alex, a mysterious, troubled woman in love with Josh Hartnett's character.
With that success, Rose moved to L.A. She played
a maid in a BBC TV mini-series, Casanova, starring
legendary actor, Peter O'Toole's with whom she also starred
in Troy. In 2005, she played the woman in the love triangle
in The Tenants, which was not a bright star in her
career. Meanwhile, Rose bought a house in London and she began
living there with her sister since she "couldn't feel at home
in L.A."
In
2006, she played the friend of Marie Antoinette, in a Sofia
Coppola's film which had a success in Europe though it didn't
receive the attention it needed. The critics were divided
in two groups, one was complementing Rose's acting, the others
arguing that her part was too small. Later that year, she
played The Sister in The Dead Girl, one of the most
successful independent films from the US. Rose gave an outstanding
performance as a girl who is desperate to find her sister
whom everyone believes in still alive.
In 2007, Rose appears in Sunshine, 28 Weeks Later, Damages, (a FX television series in which she stars with Glenn Close), and Pushing Up Daises.
In 2008, she will be appearing in The Tender Hook starring
alongside Hugo Weaving. She may not be the "next hot thing,"
but she has already proven that she is not a hit and miss
actress. It seems like we will be seeing more of Rose in the
future, giving life to the unique characters she so carefully
chooses to portray.
